Solving Construction’s Labor Crisis with Scalable Knowledge Transfer: A Recap of ENR FutureTech 2025

On this page

Last month, ConCntric attended ENR FutureTech 2025 to connect with other forward-thinking builders, tech innovators, and industry leaders tackling some of construction’s biggest challenges: labor shortages, generational knowledge gaps, and the urgent need to modernize how we train and retain talent in construction.

There was a strong emphasis placed on technology’s role, especially AI, in solving these issues. ENR FutureTech perfectly aligned with our mission at ConCntric—empowering teams during the precon phase through streamlines communication, structured, data, and collaborative planning.

Our Experience at ENR FutureTech 2025

Steve Dell’Orto, our Founder and CEO, was joined by Rich Scopelliti, Vice President of Preconstruction at Consigli Construction and a ConCntric customer, along with Patrick Murphy, founder of Togal.AI and fellow Built by Builders member, to discuss a pressing industry challenge: how do we solve construction’s growing workforce problem?

The panel, made up of expert voices from across the construction industry; builders, tech founders, and preconstruction experts, was unified in its message: the talent shortage is more urgent than most realize. There are hundreds of thousands of open jobs and a widening experience gap as the industry sees more and more seasoned professionals retiring. Hiring is not the entire issue—we need to enable and retain new talent by giving them the tools and confidence to succeed in their positions. That starts with preconstruction.

Knowledge Transfer Starts in Preconstruction

Today, more than ever, precon professionals are being tasked with more than just estimating. They’re also risk managers, strategic planners, and key communicators. Despite the importance they play, they’re often working with outdated tools, unstructured data, and disjointed workflows.

ConCntric was built to solve that. Our platform structures the preconstruction process, digitizes repeatable tasks, and enables teams to focus on what really matters: communication, decision-making, and strategy.

As Steve emphasized during the panel discussion, for many firms, the only thing holding back growth is the lack of available talent. ConCntric was created to return time back to teams so they can mentor, collaborate, and plan more effectively, with technology supporting the human effort, not replacing it.

“AI should be seen as a force multiplier; it amplifies human capabilities, accelerating learning curves and boosting productivity. With the right support, someone in their first year can operate with the confidence and knowledge of a five- or ten-year veteran. That’s how we start to close the gap between demand and supply in this industry.” —Steve Dell’Orto, Founder & CEO, ConCntric

Embracing Change with the Right Culture

A recurring theme noticed during the discussion was that technology alone isn’t the answer—culture determines whether it sticks.

During the panel, Rich from Consigli shared how they’re his team is leading adoption through pilot programs and encouraging internal champions to share their success stories and show proof of value in their work. Steve added that successful change starts with empathy: reinforcing the importance of meeting people where they are and remembering to respect the experience that seasoned professionals bring to the table.

Ultimately, every panelist agreed that a balance between technology and human connection is essential. Construction is, and always will be, a people business.

How ConCntric Makes Mentorship Scalable

ConCntric was designed with the next generation of builders in mind. Our goal is to make mentorship and knowledge transfer scalable, efficient, and impactful.

Here’s how we do it:

  • Accelerated onboarding: Ramp up new hires faster by accessing structured, reusable data and insights.
  • Streamlined workflows: Redundant tasks are digitized, allowing your team to focus on strategy and communication.
  • Real-time collaboration: Our platform connects all stakeholders in one workspace, eliminating silos and reducing rework.
  • Data-backed decision-making: ConCntric gives teams structured, real-time insights that replace guesswork with clarity. By unifying cost data, project milestones, and stakeholder inputs in one place, teams can make confident, aligned decisions earlier in the process.

What’s Next for ConCntric

FutureTech made one thing clear: the construction industry is ready (and eager) for scalable, tech-enabled knowledge transfer. At ConCntric, we’re proud to be leading that transformation; building tools that empower preconstruction teams to work smarter, train faster, and collaborate better. We’re structuring preconstruction from the ground up, so institutional knowledge doesn’t just live in people’s heads—it lives in the process.

Because when we support the people who build our world, we build a stronger future for everyone.
